Suns Sign Owes
The
Townsville Suns Today signed Former Geelong Supercat and Golden State Warrior Ray Owes. Ray was last week cut by the Warriors after a very respectable 1996-1997 season for the Warriors averaging a little under 10 points a game. In Ray Owes season for Geelong (1996) he lead the league in rebounding and averaged over 20 points per game and will certainly fill the hole left by the injury to all NBL first team member Clarence Tyson. Ray offers something a little different to Tyson in that he is 2 inches taller and stronger, he can play back to the basket and shoot the long range jumper, and even the NBL three pointer, plus he has decent hands and runs the floor well. However he is not as fast or agile as Tyson (who will return by the summer season), but he will be a goos fit anyway considering the added depth and quickness that management is trying to establish in talking to 2nd year guard Ben Thompson and the signing of guard Terry Johnson. One thing is for sure, any player playing with all star guard Derek Rucker will succeed and Ray will be no exception. Expect Owes and Rucker to be figuring in next years all NBL first team, and the Townsville Suns to be in next seasons top 6.
